Hulu Lands True-Crime Series ‘The Promise: Finding My Mother’s Killer’ and Australian Drama ‘Invisible Boys’
Hulu has acquired two new titles, further expanding its slate of compelling true-crime and drama series. The Disney-owned streamer has picked up the true-crime documentary series ‘The Promise: Finding My Mother’s Killer’ and the Australian drama series ‘Invisible Boys’, both of which are highly anticipated and critically acclaimed.
‘The Promise: Finding My Mother’s Killer’ is a three-part series that follows the decades-long quest of Iranian-American Pooneh Entezari to find her mother’s killer. The story centers around Pooneh’s mother, Effie Entezari, who was murdered in an execution-style killing outside her Vancouver apartment in 1989. Her husband, Mike Entezari, was later convicted of the crime and died in prison in 2019, but Pooneh’s investigation ultimately led to a civil trial that concluded another man, Viktor Pell, was to blame.
Directed by Workerbee, the production company behind the series, ‘The Promise: Finding My Mother’s Killer’ is a gripping and deeply moving story of one woman’s unwavering determination to bring her mother’s killer to justice. The series has been praised for its compelling storytelling and the courage and persistence of Pooneh Entezari in uncovering the truth.
‘Invisible Boys’, on the other hand, is a coming-of-age series about a group of gay teens in the remote coastal town of Geraldton, Western Australia. The series follows the lives of these young men as they navigate their relationships, identities, and the challenges of growing up in a small town. Starring Joseph Zara, Aydan Calafiore, Zach Blampied, Joe Kloce, Pia Miranda, and David Lyons, the show has been praised for its authentic portrayal of the queer experience and its thought-provoking exploration of themes such as identity, community, and acceptance.
Both series are expected to have their U.S. premiere on Hulu and through the Hulu on Disney+ bundle, with launch dates to be announced.
Banijay Rights, the distributor behind both series, has announced that the deal is one of the most significant since the merger of Banijay Entertainment and All3Media International (All3MI). The company has expressed its excitement about bringing these two highly anticipated series to U.S. audiences and is confident that they will resonate with viewers.
Lauren Farrar, SVP U.S. Sales, Banijay Rights, stated, ‘Invisible Boys and The Promise: Finding My Mother’s Killer are two very different stories, but are both built around the same thing we look for in every title we take to market: Bold storytelling that makes a lasting and powerful impression on audiences. We’re delighted to be bringing both to Hulu and to U.S. viewers.’
