Brad Pitt Joins Wim Wenders’ Peter Zumthor Doc as Executive Producer
Renowned actor Brad Pitt has joined forces with acclaimed director Wim Wenders to produce a documentary about the life and work of Swiss architect Peter Zumthor. The documentary, titled ‘From Inside Out – The Architecture of Peter Zumthor,’ is a testament to the enduring legacy of Zumthor’s innovative and thought-provoking designs.
Wim Wenders, a renowned filmmaker known for his visually stunning documentaries, has been working on ‘From Inside Out’ for the past 14 years. The documentary offers a unique glimpse into the world of Peter Zumthor, showcasing his most notable projects, including the Therme Vals spa in Switzerland, the Kolumba Museum in Cologne, and the Steilneset Memorial in Norway.
Zumthor’s architecture is characterized by its minimalist and introspective approach, often blurring the lines between art and functionality. His designs often incorporate natural elements and emphasize the importance of human interaction with the built environment. The documentary provides an intimate look at Zumthor’s creative process, highlighting the intricacies of his design philosophy.
Brad Pitt’s involvement in the documentary is a significant endorsement of Peter Zumthor’s work. Pitt was a vocal advocate for Zumthor’s design for the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), which he completed this year. Pitt’s support was instrumental in bringing the project to fruition, and his involvement in ‘From Inside Out’ serves as a testament to his admiration for Zumthor’s innovative designs.
Wim Wenders has said that Brad Pitt’s ‘personal support for the project and his admiration for both Peter Zumthor and myself’ made his involvement a natural fit. Pitt’s Plan B production company was not involved in the production of the documentary, and he has no financial interest in the film. The documentary was produced by Wenders’ Road Movies and DCM.
‘From Inside Out’ will premiere out of competition at the Venice Film Festival next month. The documentary was shot in 3D to immerse viewers in the spaces that Zumthor creates. The film offers a unique perspective on Zumthor’s architecture, highlighting the emotional and psychological impact of his designs on those who experience them.
The documentary also explores Zumthor’s failed attempt to design the Topography of Terror museum in Berlin, a project that was abandoned due to cost overruns. Despite the setbacks, Zumthor’s designs continue to inspire and influence architects and designers around the world. The documentary is a fitting tribute to his enduring legacy and a testament to the power of his innovative designs.
From Inside Out will be distributed by HanWay, who will handle world sales for the documentary.
