UKTV’s U&I Channel Orders Third Season of ‘Bookish’ and a Christmas Special

Mark Gatiss’ cozy crime drama ‘Bookish’ has secured a third season order at UKTV’s U&I channel, along with a two-part Christmas special set to premiere this year. The third season, consisting of six episodes, is scheduled to begin production later in 2026.

The festive special, titled ‘Bookish: The Crown of Destiny,’ will follow bookkeeper Gabriel Book (played by Mark Gatiss) as he becomes entangled in a seasonal mystery. More details about the upcoming season will be revealed in the coming months.

‘Bookish’ is produced by Eagle Eye Drama, in association with Happy Duck Films, and supported by the Belgian Tax Shelter. Beta Film, a Germany-based company, handles international sales and distribution, while PBS Distribution holds the rights to the series in North America.

The show has gained significant international attention, being sold to over 100 territories, including Radio-Canada in Canada, HBO Max in Australia, RAI in Italy, and AMC Networks in Latin America.

‘Bookish’ follows the story of Gabriel Book, an unconventional bookshop owner, as he helps the police solve crimes in the years following World War II. His marriage to Trottie (played by Polly Walker) serves as a means to conceal his sexuality during a time when homosexuality was prohibited in the UK.

The series has garnered praise for its unique blend of mystery, drama, and historical context, set against the backdrop of post-war Britain.

Mark Gatiss, the creator of the format, brings his expertise to the show, playing the lead role of Gabriel Book. The series has been well-received by audiences and critics alike, and its continued success is a testament to Gatiss’ vision and the talented cast and crew.

As ‘Bookish’ prepares to enter its third season, fans can look forward to more intricate mysteries, engaging characters, and a deeper exploration of the complexities of post-war Britain.

The show’s international appeal and critical acclaim have solidified its place as a beloved and respected drama series.

UKTV’s U&I channel has proven itself to be a hub for quality programming, and ‘Bookish’ is a shining example of their commitment to producing engaging and thought-provoking content.
