Moving Forward with Courage and Compassion: A Biopic about Vanessa Guillén

U.S. production company Mighty Aphrodite Pictures has secured an option agreement to produce a narrative feature drama about the life and legacy of U.S. Army Specialist Vanessa Guillén. This powerful film project is being developed in collaboration with the Guillén family, who have been tireless advocates for change within the U.S. military.

Guillén’s disappearance and murder at Fort Hood in 2020 sparked a nationwide outcry and calls for reform. Her family’s unwavering commitment to seeking justice has inspired lasting legislative change and amplified the voices of military families. As they continue to push for progress, the film aims to celebrate Vanessa’s life and honor her family’s tireless advocacy.

Guillén had long aspired to serve in the Army, but after being assigned to Fort Hood, she confided in friends and family about the severe sexual harassment she endured at the hands of a superior. Despite her fears of retaliation, she did not officially report the incidents, a decision that would haunt her and her loved ones for years to come.

Tragically, Guillén’s remains were discovered buried along the Leon River, more than two months after she went missing. Her fellow soldier, Aaron David Robinson, fled the base and took his own life when law enforcement attempted to apprehend him.

The events surrounding Vanessa Guillén’s life and death have been previously highlighted in Netflix’s 2020 documentary I Am Vanessa Guillén and an ABC 20/20 episode from the same year.

Mighty Aphrodite Pictures’ founder and CEO, Jorge Xolalpa, will direct the film, which promises to honor Vanessa’s life with honesty, compassion, and authenticity. Xolalpa emphasizes the significance of this project, stating, ‘This is far more than an opportunity to make a film, it’s a responsibility.’

Palomera Group and Levy Law PLLC facilitated the option agreement, with Mayra Guillén and Alejandra Palomera serving as executive producers. Jolene Rodriguez of Broken English Productions will produce alongside Xolalpa, and the two have entered into a three-film producing agreement.

Xolalpa’s recent credits as a director include features Union Station and Lolita, starring Johnny Ortiz, Alexis Vazquez, and Eric Roberts.

This biopic serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of standing up against injustice and the impact of one person’s courage in the face of adversity.

The option agreement was facilitated by Palomera Group and Levy Law PLLC, the team repping Vanessa Guillén’s sister, Mayra Guillén. Mayra Guillén and Alejandra Palomera will serve as executive producers.

Joining Xolalpa on the project is Jolene Rodriguez of Broken English Productions who will produce with Xolalpa. Beyond the Vanessa Guillén film, Xolalpa and Rodriguez have entered into a three-film producing agreement.
