Virginia Running Back Solomon Beebe Arrested on Animal Cruelty Charges

Virginia Cavaliers running back Solomon Beebe has been arrested on three charges of animal cruelty, according to court documents obtained by 247Sports.

Beebe, a transfer from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) in the offseason, appeared in Albemarle County District Court on Thursday.

He was charged with three Class I misdemeanors stemming from three different incidents, including an alleged incident on August 12 where a housekeeper in Beebe’s apartment complex witnessed him punch his pet pitbull twice.

Another alleged incident on August 10 was investigated by the animal protection unit, and on August 13, Albemarle County seized Beebe’s dog.

Following his arrest, Beebe was released on unsecured bail.

The University of Virginia sent a statement on Beebe’s arrest to 247Sports, stating, ‘The University does not comment on matters involving ongoing criminal proceedings or student records.’

Beebe enrolled at UAB as a member of the 2024 signing class and played a larger role in the offense last season, carrying the ball 56 times for 338 yards and six touchdowns while adding 284 receiving yards.

After entering the transfer portal in December, Beebe committed to Virginia and arrived on campus in January, working as the Cavaliers’ primary kick returner and part of the team’s running back rotation behind Tennessee transfer Peyton Lewis and MTSU transfer Jekail Middlebrook.

The availability of Beebe moving forward is unknown, but Virginia opens its season in just over one week with a critical ACC game against NC State on August 29. If Beebe doesn’t suit up, Lewis and Middlebrook will get an even bigger workload against the Wolfpack.

Key Charges and Incidents

Beebe faces three Class I misdemeanors stemming from three different incidents:

  • An alleged incident on August 12 where a housekeeper in Beebe’s apartment complex witnessed him punch his pet pitbull twice.
  • An alleged incident on August 10 that was investigated by the animal protection unit.
  • The seizure of Beebe’s dog by Albemarle County on August 13.

The University of Virginia has declined to comment on the matter, citing ongoing criminal proceedings and student records.

Impact on Virginia Football

The availability of Beebe moving forward is unknown, but his absence could have a significant impact on the Virginia football team.

With Beebe out, Lewis and Middlebrook will get an even bigger workload against the Wolfpack in the critical ACC game on August 29.

The Cavaliers will need to adjust their game plan and strategy to compensate for Beebe’s absence, which could lead to an even more challenging game against NC State.
