Revolutionizing Gaming Audio with the Cloud Alpha Air

HyperX, a leading brand in gaming accessories, has been a prominent player in the industry for over a decade. The company has made significant contributions to the gaming world, including RAM and SSDs. However, until now, HyperX has never ventured into the realm of open-back gaming headsets. This changes with the introduction of the Cloud Alpha Air, a $150 gaming headset designed to deliver exceptional audio performance.

The Cloud Alpha Air features plush foam earpads and a Bass Tube, a proprietary technology designed to preserve the low-end thump. This innovation addresses one of the primary concerns associated with open-back headphones: the potential loss of bass response. HyperX aimed to create a product that would deliver the same level of bass response as closed-back headsets, allowing gamers to pick up on subtle sound effects like footsteps and explosions. During my hands-on experience with the Cloud Alpha Air, I was impressed by its ability to produce a satisfying and controlled deep rumble.

The headset’s bass response is particularly noteworthy, as it highlights low tones in shooters and other games. While it may not provide a significant competitive advantage, it certainly enhances the overall gaming experience. Additionally, the Cloud Alpha Air features an impedance of 34 ohms, which is relatively low. However, I noticed that when connected to my PC via a 3.5mm audio cable, the overall volume was slightly subdued. To mitigate this issue, HyperX includes a USB adapter that can be used to connect the headset to a computer or other device.

The design of the Cloud Alpha Air is characterized by simplicity and comfort. The only controls on the headphones themselves are a volume wheel and a mute button for the detachable mic. The sides of the cans feature a metallic grille that conceals the red 40mm dynamic drivers underneath, while the big foam earcups covered in ultrasuede provide a very comfortable and relaxed fit. The metal headband feels sturdy and withstood my bend test, which consisted of not-so-gently torquing each cup in opposite directions.

One of the standout features of the Cloud Alpha Air is the comprehensive set of cables and adapters included in the package. This includes a basic 3.5mm cord, a PC extension cable with separate audio and mic jacks, and a USB adapter with both USB-A and USB-C connectors. This allows users to connect the headset to a wide range of devices. Additionally, the package includes a drawstring bag for packing the headset and its accessories when traveling.

While the Cloud Alpha Air is a great product, it is currently only available as a wired headset. This may be a drawback for some users, as it limits the headset’s portability and convenience. However, I suspect that HyperX is working on a wireless version of the headset, which may be released in the future.

In addition to the Cloud Alpha Air, HyperX has launched new color combinations for existing products, including the HyperX Cloud III S, HyperX Cloud III Wired, and HyperX Cloud Flight 2. For those looking for new input options, HyperX has also released the Pulsefire Haste 3 Pro, a lightweight mouse made from a carbon fiber shell and weighing just 47 grams. This mouse features HyperX’s new Performance Sensor, which delivers up to 42,000 DPI while providing up to 150 hours of use in wireless mode. There are also more affordable options available, including a Pro Model for $90 and a wired model for $40.

Unfortunately, HyperX has not announced any new gaming laptops or desktops, but the company has a range of reasonably priced accessories available for those looking to upgrade their rig. These products will be available for purchase in September, providing gamers with a great opportunity to enhance their gaming experience with HyperX’s latest offerings.
