The highly anticipated CAA and Finch & Partners The Future of… Creativity forum is set to take place during the Venice Film Festival, bringing together an esteemed group of speakers to discuss the future of creativity in the age of transformational change.

George Clooney, who will be in town to receive the festival’s Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement, will be joined by Venice chief Alberto Barbera, Venice jury president Maggie Gyllenhaal, and a range of other notable industry figures.

The forum, which will take place on Friday 4 September at the Scuola Vecchia della Misericordia, is presented with the support of festival sponsor Mastercard and will convene artists, filmmakers, writers, technologists, and cultural leaders for a day of thoughtful discussion and debate.

The event will feature two panel discussions with audience participation, before concluding with a private dinner. Among the speakers confirmed to take part are director and screenwriter Giuseppe Tornatore, composer Alexandre Desplat, and Cardinal Jose Tolentino de Mendonca, who serves as the Prefect of the Dicastery for Culture and Education at the Vatican.

Barbera will host the invite-only gathering and explained the importance of exploring the impact of artificial intelligence on human activity and the tools available to support the work of artists. ‘Storytelling has accompanied every stage of human civilization, and the tools for telling stories have never stopped changing,’ he said. ‘Artificial intelligence may prove the greatest change yet, with an impact on human activity perhaps greater even than that of the 19th-century Industrial Revolution.’

He continued, ‘There is much discussion, quite rightly, about its worrying aspects: the repercussions for employment, for artists’ copyright and image rights, and the ethical dimension of the phenomenon. I believe it is important, however, to begin with a different question: what does this mean for creativity itself, and what new tools, if any, might it offer to support the work of artists, and of filmmakers in particular.’

The forum will pose the question ‘what is the future of creativity in the age of transformational change?’ and will feature a range of topics and discussions, including the impact of artificial intelligence on the creative industries.
