Lucasfilm Co-Boss Dave Filoni On ‘Hunt For Ben Solo’ Pic Future: ‘The Force Is Not With Us…’ – D23
Lucasfilm’s Hopes for The Hunt for Ben Solo Project Remain Uncertain
Despite the fervent fanbase rallying behind the revival of the Kylo Ren movie, Lucasfilm’s co-boss Dave Filoni has cast doubt on the possibility of reviving the project. The Hunt for Ben Solo was initially set to take place in the events following Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker, with the aim of putting the former Kylo Ren on a redemptive path.
During an interview at D23, Filoni was asked about the future of Kylo Ren on the big screen. His response was clear and concise, ‘It’s not here, you won’t find it here,’ he said, ‘The force is not with us in that regard; I love the love you feel for it.’ Filoni’s words suggest that the project is unlikely to be revived, at least for now.
However, the fanbase remains hopeful that the project will be revived. The campaign to save the project has been ongoing since the news broke last fall that former CEO Bob Iger and Disney Entertainment co-Chairman Alan Bergman had turned down the project. Fans have been using various means to express their support, including skydiving with a flag tied to their parachute reading ‘Save the Hunt for Ben Solo’ and digital trucks driving around Hollywood with the hashtag #thehuntforbensolo.
The decision to turn down the project stemmed from the antagonist being dead in 2019’s Star Wars, Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker. Iger and Bergman felt that it didn’t make sense to continue the story with a character who had already died. However, this decision was met with disappointment from fans, who felt that the project had potential.
Despite the setback, fans remain hopeful that the project will be revived in the future. As one fan noted, ‘This is the way,’ referring to the iconic phrase from The Mandalorian. The fanbase remains committed to bringing the project back to life, and it will be interesting to see if Lucasfilm will reconsider the project in the future.
In the meantime, Adam Driver has found a new project to work on, a role as X-Men villain Mister Sinister in the next reboot of the franchise. It remains to be seen whether this new project will bring the same level of excitement and anticipation as the Hunt for Ben Solo.
As the future of the project remains uncertain, fans can only hold onto hope that one day, the Hunt for Ben Solo will be revived and brought back to life. Until then, the fanbase will continue to rally behind the project, using various means to express their support and keep the dream alive.
It’s worth noting that the Mandalorian and Grogu, which was also co-written and produced by Filoni, had a relatively low grossing live-action feature, with a worldwide box office of $345 million. This may be a factor in Lucasfilm’s decision to turn down the project, as the studio may be looking to focus on other projects that have more potential for success.
