Caitríona Balfe Cast as Queen Arianna in Disney’s Live-Action ‘Tangled’
Disney has announced that Caitríona Balfe, the talented actress known for her role in the hit series ‘Outlander,’ will be joining the cast of the live-action adaptation of ‘Tangled.’ Balfe will be playing the role of Queen Arianna, the long-lost mother of Rapunzel, in the highly anticipated film.
While the footage teased at D23 did not feature Balfe, the actress has been confirmed to join the previously announced cast, which includes Teagan Croft as Rapunzel, Milo Manheim as Flynn Rider, and Kathryn Hahn as Mother Gothel. The movie is being directed by Michael Gracey, with a script written by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson and Michael Montemayor.
The live-action adaptation of ‘Tangled’ is set to hit theaters on March 31, 2028, and the Disney team has teased a first look at footage of Croft and Hahn in the film. The original ‘Tangled’ animated fantasy musical was released in 2010 and follows the story of Rapunzel, a magical long-haired princess who sets out to discover her true identity and the world beyond her tower.
In the original film, Rapunzel (voiced by Mandy Moore) spent her entire life in a tower until she was discovered by runaway thief Flynn Ryder (voiced by Zachari Levi). The two form an unlikely bond, and Rapunzel sets out to explore the world and discover who she really is. The original cast also included Donna Murphy, Ron Perlman, Brad Garrett, and Jeffrey Tambor.
