Southold Fish Market

Located on the picturesque NY-25 in Southold, Southold Fish Market is a must-visit for seafood enthusiasts. The owner, Charlie, knows all the local fishermen and brings in the freshest catches. Colicchio loves the variety of fish available, including fluke, sea bass, and tuna. He also appreciates the prepared foods like chowders and fish and chips, which are simply prepared but incredibly fresh.

‘I made a kind of paella recently using clams, mussels, scallops, and shrimp from the market, and it was absolutely delicious,’ Colicchio raves. ‘The fish is as good as anything I get in my restaurant.’

The Village Cheese Shop

Nestled on Love Lane in Mattituck, The Village Cheese Shop is a beautifully curated cheese shop that has been a staple for over 23 years. Colicchio is a fan of their huge selection of hard-to-find fromage, including cheeses from Europe and artisan producers in the US. He loves to pick up cheese from Catapano Dairy Farm, which is always in heavy rotation at the shop.

‘I like to have a variety of cheeses – different milks, hard and soft,’ Colicchio explains. ‘Some Roquefort, a young pecorino, a washed-rind cheese. I love stinky cheeses – have you noticed they don’t taste the way they smell?’

Peeko Oysters

Located in New Suffolk, Peeko Oysters is a particularly good operation, thanks in part to the Peconic Estuary. Colicchio became friendly with the owners during the pandemic when they were forced to start shipping oysters across the country. He loves to sit on their back patio and enjoy freshly shucked oysters with their special mignonette.

‘The oysters are briny but sweet – delicious,’ Colicchio raves. ‘You can also find Little Creek Oyster Bar in town, which used to be right on the water but has since moved.’
