Chris Yost & Eric Heisserer Named Co-Showrunners for Peacock’s ‘Dungeon Crawler Carl’
Dungeon Crawler Carl, a Peacock drama series based on Matt Dinniman’s popular science fantasy LitRPG books, has found its showrunners. Chris Yost and Eric Heisserer have been named co-showrunners for the series, which was given a straight-to-series order in June.
Yost, who was previously announced as the writer of the project, brings a wealth of experience in the industry. He has worked on films such as Thor and its sequels, and has also served as an executive consultant and writer on the first season of The Mandalorian, as well as multiple Star Wars projects.
Heisserer, on the other hand, is known for his work on Netflix’s Shadow and Bone, which he showran, executive produced, and created. He has also written the Netflix film Bird Box, starring Sandra Bullock, and the Denis Villeneuve-directed sci-fi thriller Arrival. His original screenplay Mysteria is also set up at Amazon.
The series, which is being produced by Seth MacFarlane’s Fuzzy Door and Universal Global Television, follows the story of Carl, a Coast Guard vet who finds himself stuck with his ex-girlfriend’s award-winning show cat, Princess Donut the Queen Anne Chonk, as they try to survive the end of the world, fighting monsters, aliens, an insane A.I., and even other survivors – all for the sake of good TV.
Jeff Hays, a voice narrator and producer behind the LitRPG audiobook series version of Dinniman’s dystopian comedy novel, will star as Princess Donut. Yost and Heisserer will also executive produce alongside MacFarlane, Erica Huggins, and Rachel Hargreaves-Heald.
The series pickup caps a seven-year journey for Dungeon Crawler Carl, which originated in 2019 with vignettes Dinniman self-published on a digital platform as a hobby while not busy with his main job as a sketch artist at cat shows.
Peacock’s decision to adapt Dinniman’s popular books into a drama series is a testament to the platform’s commitment to bringing unique and engaging stories to its audience. With Yost and Heisserer at the helm, fans can expect a thrilling and action-packed series that will keep them on the edge of their seats.
The series is set to premiere on Peacock, but no release date has been announced yet.
In related news, Peacock has recently hiked prices across all subscription plans, making it more expensive for users to access its content.
Other recent developments in the entertainment industry include the casting of Meghan Markle in Guy Ritchie’s Netflix series ‘The Gentlemen’ and the release of the film ‘Insidious’, which has topped $100M in its third week at the box office.
