Dana White’s Contender Series: A Crucial Platform for Emerging MMA Talent

Dana White’s Contender Series has reached its second week of the 10th season, offering a vital opportunity for top regional fighters to showcase their skills and potentially secure a UFC contract. The show’s format, where five fights take place each week, allows aspiring MMA athletes to audition in front of UFC CEO Dana White and leave a lasting impression.

Since its inception, the Contender Series has played a pivotal role in launching the careers of several notable MMA fighters. Four of its graduates have gone on to become UFC champions: Sean O’Malley, Jamahal Hill, Jack Della Maddalena, and Carlos Ulberg. Other notable graduates include welterweight contender Carlos Prates and lightweight contender Mauricio Ruffy, who is set to face off in the co-main event of UFC 331 on September 19.

Last week, the first four fighters of the new season earned contracts, with notable performances from heavyweight Anthony Wint and bantamweight Bilal Hassan. Wint’s impressive TKO victory over Matt Adams in just 34 seconds earned him a spot on the upcoming card in Sacramento, while Hassan’s swift dispatch of Mridul Saikia in 45 seconds has him slated to fight next week in Shanghai.

This week, the spotlight shifts to a welterweight bout between Namo Fazil and Kaik Brito in the main event slot. Fazil, who has rebounded from a four-fight losing streak with eight consecutive victories, including six stoppages, faces off against Brito, who enters the fight on a two-fight winning streak. Brito previously appeared on the Contender Series just shy of three years ago, losing a majority decision to Oban Elliott.

The action takes place at the Meta APEX in Las Vegas, kicking off at 7 p.m. Eastern time. As with every UFC event, the fights will be available to all Paramount+ subscribers. The service has become the new home of UFC, offering exclusive streaming of all 13 UFC numbered events, 30 UFC Fight Nights, Dana White’s Contender Series, and ‘The Ultimate Fighter’ episodes through 2033.

All Paramount+ subscribers, regardless of their plan (Premium or Essential), can access an extensive archive of UFC content, including past fights on demand, iconic fights and features on champions and UFC legends, series like UFC Embedded and UFC Countdown, exclusive interviews with athletes, and previews of every numbered event with CBS Sports experts.

The Contender Series: Week 2 fight card and odds are as follows:

  • Namo Fazil (-166) vs. Kaik Brito (+140), welterweights
  • Douglas Henry Rodrigues (-360) vs. Trent Miller (+260), middleweights
  • Logan Paxton vs. Cristian Perez, lightweights
  • Mahamed Aly (-270) vs. Alik Lorenz (+220), light heavyweights
  • Roman Gabriel Puga (-155) vs. Taner Trembley (+130), featherweights

The Contender Series is a crucial platform for emerging MMA talent, offering a chance to secure a UFC contract and launch their career. With its rich history of producing notable fighters, this week’s event promises to deliver an exciting lineup of matches that will leave fans eagerly anticipating the next installment.
