EverQuest Legends, the revamped spin-off of the classic MMORPG EverQuest, has been making waves with its unique blend of old-school gameplay and modern features. In a recent Twitch stream, developers from Daybreak Games and Game Jawn shared some exciting insights into the game’s future, including the possibility of introducing new classes and races.

According to Daybreak executive producer David Youssefi, the team has indeed discussed adding new classes and races to the game, but emphasized that this would be a long-term vision rather than a near-future goal. ‘Definitely, I think, long-term we have discussed additional races, additional classes. Is it realistic to have another class by [the upcoming expansion] Kunark? I don’t think so,’ Youssefi said during the stream.

However, Youssefi’s colleague, Game Jawn CEO and technical director Eda Spause, chimed in with a more optimistic outlook, stating, ‘Yeah, absolutely.’ This exchange suggests that while the introduction of new classes and races is not a guaranteed feature in the near future, it is indeed being considered as part of the game’s longer-term development plans.

The idea of introducing new classes and races in EverQuest Legends is not without precedent. Other MMORPGs, such as Old School RuneScape and World of Warcraft, have explored similar concepts in the past. In fact, World of Warcraft’s ‘Classic+’ version has been rumored to be inspired by the private server scene, which often features custom content and new classes.
EverQuest Legends, which has already introduced a new playable race in the catlike kerran, has a unique opportunity to build upon its existing foundation and offer players even more diverse playstyles. The addition of new classes would allow players to experiment with different builds and playstyles, potentially leading to a more dynamic and engaging gameplay experience.
While the exact details of any new classes or races are still unclear, the developers’ enthusiasm for the idea is certainly a positive sign. As Eric Wellman, lead content designer, noted, ‘it’s a matter of how much work, and is it worth the work.’ This cautious approach acknowledges the challenges involved in introducing new content, but also highlights the team’s commitment to delivering a high-quality experience for players.
In the meantime, fans of EverQuest Legends can continue to look forward to the upcoming expansion, Kunark, which promises to bring new zones, quests, and gameplay mechanics to the game. With its unique blend of old-school charm and modern features, EverQuest Legends is sure to remain a popular choice for MMORPG fans in the years to come.
As the game continues to evolve and grow, it will be interesting to see how the developers choose to implement any new classes or races. Will they draw inspiration from existing games, or forge their own path? Whatever the case, one thing is certain – EverQuest Legends is a game that is constantly pushing the boundaries of what is possible in the MMORPG genre.
