During a recent appearance on Real Time with Bill Maher, the son of President Joe Biden humorously downplayed the notion of a future presidential run, joking that if he were to announce his candidacy, someone should ‘check if I relapsed.’

This lighthearted remark stems from his well-documented struggles with addiction, which he has been open about in the past. In a heartwarming display of resilience, Biden has leveraged his platform to raise awareness about addiction and support those affected.

Having celebrated seven years of sobriety in June, Biden reflected on the reasons behind his increased public presence. He explained that the media attention surrounding his struggles created a unique opportunity for him to connect with millions of Americans struggling with addiction.

‘My own reason for being out there as much as I am, at least from my perspective, [the media] built this platform to beat the hell out of me for about a seven-year period of time,’ he stated. ‘And when the crowd went home, the platform was still there.’

Biden emphasized the significance of his platform, highlighting its potential to reach 50 million Americans still struggling with addiction. He expressed gratitude for the chance to make a positive impact, stating that even a single person reaching out to him for support is a testament to the value of his work.

‘There’s 50 million Americans that are still sick and suffering every day from addiction, and I get to go out there, and I get to speak to them,’ he said. ‘Even if it’s one person that sends me a message any day, that says, ‘I saw your message, and I didn’t drink today,’ then I’ve done something that I think is incredibly worthy.’
