British filmmaker John Irvin, known for his versatile career spanning action movies, documentaries, and television series, has passed away at the age of 86.

According to his producers, Irvin died peacefully at the UK home of his sister-in-law on August 11th, surrounded by his family.

Throughout his illustrious career, which spanned over three decades, Irvin made more than thirty features, showcasing his incredible range and adaptability as a director.

Irvin’s work included a variety of genres, from action-packed films like ‘Hamburger Hill’ and ‘Raw Deal’ to critically acclaimed television series like ‘Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.’

One of his most notable achievements was directing the BAFTA-winning television series ‘Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy,’ which earned him a reputation as a masterful storyteller.

Irvin’s ability to balance intellectual complexity with visceral action was a hallmark of his work, as seen in films like ‘Hamburger Hill,’ which followed the bloodiest battles of the Vietnam War.
