‘I Knew I Was Only Going to Be in Four Episodes’

When asked about his character’s limited screen time, Fichtner revealed that he knew from the start that Wayne wouldn’t be around for long. ‘I knew that this was a character that was only going to be in four of the seven episodes, but also, when I read the first couple of scripts, it was very interesting to play a character that everyone talks about,’ he explained.

Fichtner’s character, Wayne, is a ruthless businessman who will stop at nothing to get what he wants. Despite his villainous nature, Fichtner brought depth and nuance to the role, making Wayne a complex and intriguing character. ‘By the time he shows up, it’s like, ‘Is that him?’ That’s a great thing for an actor. It’s just such an intro, especially with a guy like me,’ Fichtner said with a chuckle.

‘The Car Ride Scene Was My Favorite’

One of the standout moments in the series is the car ride scene where Wayne and Priscilla discuss their past relationship and Cary’s recent death. Fichtner revealed that this scene was his favorite in the whole show, as it allowed him to give Wayne emotional depth and humanize the villain. ‘It’s everything,’ he said, explaining that the scene was a game-changer for him as an actor.

‘Driving in the car, going to this finale showdown with Annette [Bening]. I’ve never met Annette before, but I’m such a huge fan and she’s such a lovely woman,’ Fichtner added, highlighting the chemistry between him and his co-star.

‘I Don’t Believe Wayne Lived His Life at Peace with That Decision’

When asked about Wayne’s decision not to help raise Cary, Fichtner explained that he believes his character was motivated by a desire to avoid repeating the mistakes of his own childhood. ‘As he says, ‘This was your journey and I told you that from the beginning,’ Fichtner said, echoing Wayne’s words to Priscilla.

‘So, I don’t believe that Wayne lived his life, not at peace with that. He always told her that it would go that way. When you get a little glimpse of his own upbringing, maybe he didn’t want to take the chance of having anything that resembled that sort of relationship or lack thereof,’ he added.

‘The Series Explores the Damage of Criminal Parents’

‘Lucky’ is a thought-provoking series that explores the impact of criminal parents on their children. Fichtner believes that the show highlights the importance of having a stable and loving environment for kids to grow and thrive. ‘I think Lucky and John have a more twisted relationship than me and Priscilla and Cary,’ he said with a laugh.

‘We put our cards on the table. Those guys are nuts,’ he quipped, highlighting the complexities of the relationships in the show.

‘Wayne Has Built an Empire with Huge Walls’

Despite his villainous nature, Fichtner’s character, Wayne, is a calculated and ruthless businessman who has built a successful empire. ‘Wayne has built an empire that has huge walls,’ Fichtner noted, explaining that his character has removed himself from the chaos of his younger years.

‘Wayne’s removed himself from the craziness of his younger years. He has the money and the influence and the knowledge,’ he added, highlighting the complexity of Wayne’s character.

When asked about his experience working with co-star Timothy Olyphant, Fichtner revealed that they previously worked together in the 1999 Sundance Film Festival hit, ‘Go’. ‘I don’t think I’ve seen Timothy since those days,’ Fichtner said, highlighting the joy of working with talented actors.
