Reddit (RDDT) Joins the S&P 500: What’s Next for the Company?
Reddit (RDDT) Joins the S&P 500: A New Chapter for the Company
Reddit Inc. (NYSE:RDDT) has made history by announcing its inclusion in the S&P 500, a prestigious stock market index. The news sent shockwaves through the financial community, with the company’s share price soaring by 12.63% to close at $178.09 per share.
The addition of Reddit to the S&P 500 marks a significant milestone for the company, recognizing its growth, momentum, and consistency as a public entity. In an interview, Chief Financial Officer Drew Vollero expressed pride in the company’s achievement, stating, ‘We’re proud to be added to the S&P 500, recognizing the growth, momentum, and consistency we’ve established as a public company.’
The company’s inclusion in the S&P 500 is expected to boost its exposure to funds and global investors. This is a significant development for Reddit, as it will provide the company with greater access to capital markets and increased visibility among investors.
Reddit’s strong earnings performance in the second quarter of the year played a significant role in its inclusion in the S&P 500. The company reported revenues of $805 million, a 61% increase from the same period last year. Net profits more than doubled to $253 million, driven by a 64% jump in ad revenues and a 24% improvement in other revenues.
The company’s growth prospects are expected to continue, with 23 analysts currently holding a moderate buy rating. Phillip Securities has issued a buy call with a price target of $230, representing a 29% upside potential from the company’s latest closing price.
However, institutional investors appear to be more cautious about Reddit’s long-term growth prospects. Data from Insider Monkey shows that 70 hedge funds held positions in the company as of the first quarter of the year, down from 82 in the fourth quarter of 2025. The combined holdings of these hedge funds fell sharply by 46% to $2.86 billion from $5.29 billion quarter-on-quarter.
The third quarter will be a crucial indicator of institutional sentiment, as it will reveal whether Reddit’s inclusion in the S&P 500 has been strong enough to gain hedge fund backing.
