Haibouri’s dream was to make it big playing in Europe, but his ambitions were cut short when he drowned in the waters off Ceuta.

Abdelouahed Iken, a 19-year-old high school student from Agadir, was another victim of the migrant surge. He had been admiring photos of his friend’s life in Italy on Facebook and was determined to follow in his footsteps. Despite his inability to swim, Iken bought a life jacket and set off on the perilous journey, which ultimately proved fatal.
