As a parent of two teenagers, I’ve learned that finding the perfect family vacation spot can be a daunting task. With two different personalities and needs, it’s essential to choose a destination that caters to everyone’s requirements. For my younger daughter, who is 15 and autistic, consistency and structure are crucial to her well-being. She sometimes struggles with long travel days and sudden changes in her routine, which can lead to distress.

That’s why I was thrilled to discover that Beaches Resorts have become Advanced Certified Autism Centers, providing a smoother and more accessible resort experience for autistic guests and their families. I was eager to learn more about the support available at the Turks and Caicos resort and how it would impact our stay.

Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed to Treasure Beach Village, a new addition to the property that opened on March 1. The resort’s representatives had reserved an oceanview suite for us, which was perfect for our needs. They also arranged for private airport transfers to avoid longer wait times and noisier bus rides.

The conversation about our family’s specific needs began well before our arrival. The resort’s pre-visit questionnaire gathered essential information about our daughter’s communication style, favorite activities, triggers, and swimming level. This information was then used to make recommendations and help us plan for our stay.
During our stay, we discovered that the resort’s inclusive day camps and 1:1 ‘Beaches Buddy’ service were available to support our daughter’s needs. The Beaches Buddy met us at the pool and swam with our daughter for a couple of hours, providing her with the necessary support and companionship.
We also appreciated the resort’s sensory guide, which rates every area by touch, taste, sight, smell, and sound intensity. This guide helped us identify ‘low-sensory zones’ for our daughter, making it easier for her to navigate the resort.
One of the most significant aspects of our stay was the attention to detail and consideration shown by the resort staff. They took the time to understand our needs and preferences, making recommendations and adjustments to ensure our stay was comfortable and enjoyable.
As we explored the resort, we discovered that the conversation about our family’s specific needs wasn’t limited to the initial questionnaire. The resort staff were always available to provide support and guidance, making us feel valued and included.
Our stay at Beaches Turks and Caicos was nothing short of magical. We enjoyed a seamless and enjoyable vacation, thanks to the resort’s commitment to providing an accessible and inclusive experience for autistic guests and their families.
