A Wyoming woman has come forward with allegations that her stepfather used the AI chatbot Grok to create thousands of fake sexually explicit images of her as a child. This development marks the fourth party to join a lawsuit against xAI, the company behind the Grok chatbot, alleging that the platform was used to generate child sexual abuse material (CSAM) based on the woman’s childhood photos.

According to the lawsuit, the woman’s stepfather created over 7,000 ‘fake explicit images’ of her using the AI chatbot Grok, including converting a photo taken of her when she was 11 into a sexually explicit image. The images were allegedly traded online, and the stepfather’s electronic devices were later raided by state and local law enforcement for CSAM. Two days after the raid, the stepfather was found dead by suicide in his car.
Jane Doe 4 joins three other teenagers who filed the original lawsuit alleging that Grok was used to create sexually explicit deepfake images of them. The class-action lawsuit argues that it could cover ‘at least thousands of minors.’
Aside from this lawsuit, xAI and its Grok chatbot have been at the center of several investigations regarding CSAM. In January, California’s Attorney General, Rob Bonta, launched an investigation into xAI, accusing it of generating nonconsensual deepfake nudes of women and children. The European Union also opened its own probe of x to determine if the platform had sufficient measures in place to stop the spread of AI-generated CSAM.
We reached out to xAI for comment on the latest update to the lawsuit and will update the story when we hear back.
xAI and its Grok chatbot have been under scrutiny for their role in generating and disseminating CSAM. The platform’s use of AI to create deepfake images has raised concerns about the potential for exploitation and abuse. The company has faced numerous investigations and lawsuits, including the current class-action lawsuit alleging that Grok was used to create CSAM based on the woman’s childhood photos.
The lawsuit highlights the need for companies to take responsibility for the content generated on their platforms and to implement adequate measures to prevent the spread of CSAM. As the use of AI continues to grow, it is essential that companies prioritize user safety and take proactive steps to prevent exploitation and abuse.
