Dave Bautista Takes on the Role of Kratos in Amazon Prime Video’s ‘God of War’ TV Series
The highly anticipated TV series adaptation of the popular video game franchise ‘God of War’ has found its new lead actor in Dave Bautista, who will be taking on the iconic role of Kratos. The announcement was made by Variety, which confirmed that Bautista will be leading the Amazon Prime Video series, replacing the original cast member Ryan Hurst, who suffered a torn bicep on set in June 2026.
According to the report, Bautista’s casting comes after a two-month search for a new actor to play the role of Kratos. The series, which is a co-production between Amazon and Sony Pictures Television, has been given a two-season order, with the first two episodes set to be directed by Frederick E.O. Toye.
The ‘God of War’ TV series will be based on the video game franchise of the same name, which follows the story of Kratos and his son Atreus as they embark on a journey to spread the ashes of their wife and mother, Faye. The series will pick up where the two most recent games left off, with Kratos trying to teach his son to be a better god, while Atreus tries to teach his father how to be a better human.
The cast also includes Callum Vinson as Atreus, Max Parker as Heimdall, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor, Mandy Patinkin as Odin, Alastair Duncan as Mimir, Danny Woodburn and Jeff Gulka as the brothers Brok and Sindri, and Ed Skrein as Baldur. The series will be written and executive produced by Ronald D. Moore under his Tall Ship Productions banner, with Maril Davis also serving as an executive producer.
The ‘God of War’ TV series is expected to resume production in the coming weeks, with Bautista now locked in as Kratos. The series will be a major addition to the Amazon Prime Video lineup, offering fans of the video game franchise a unique and thrilling take on the iconic characters and storylines.
