Infinity Ward has released the first major update for the Modern Warfare 4 beta, addressing a wide range of community concerns and feedback from the game’s opening day. The update brings a new map, a new game mode, and a series of balance adjustments to various weapons, as well as several bug fixes and quality-of-life improvements.

One of the most notable changes in the update is the adjustment of footstep audio. Players had expressed concerns about the loudness of enemy footsteps, which made it difficult to sneak up on opponents without being detected. In response, Infinity Ward has reduced the volume and audible range of enemy footstep and gear audio, making it easier for players to move undetected.

According to Infinity Ward, the goal of these audio adjustments is to strike a balance between providing players with a sense of awareness about their surroundings and not revealing their exact positions to enemies at a distance. The studio will continue to monitor feedback on this topic and make further adjustments as needed.

The update also includes a series of balance adjustments to various weapons, including the ISO Nightshade SMG and the Oris 8.6 marksman rifle. These adjustments aim to reduce the lethality of these weapons and make them more in line with the game’s overall balance.
Specifically, the ISO Nightshade SMG has seen its damage range and headshot multiplier reduced, while the Oris 8.6 marksman rifle has had its damage range reduced. These changes are designed to make these weapons more viable for players who prefer a more tactical playstyle.
The update also brings a new map to the game, Cachette, and a new game mode, Inflation. In Inflation, players must eliminate enemies and defeat HVT operators to collect cash, with the richest players becoming marked targets for everyone else to hunt.
Cachette is a new map that has been added to the game’s rotation, and with its inclusion, there are now enough maps in the pool for map voting to be switched on. Map voting allows players to vote on which map they want to play on, giving them more control over their gaming experience.
The update also includes several bug fixes and quality-of-life improvements, including a fix for an issue where players were unable to start or complete the Mobility Course, as well as a fix for a bug that could cause footstep audio to incorrectly use wet-surface sounds when players were moving across dry areas.
In addition, the update includes a fix for an issue that prevented the Global Panel from being opened using its assigned keybind, as well as a fix for a disconnect issue caused by Seeker Drones. Several other errors have also been fixed, including those related to controller reconnection and menu navigation.
Despite the many improvements and fixes included in the update, there are still a few known issues that players may encounter. Join in progress is temporarily disabled on Kill Block, and cooking certain lethals can still result in an FPS drop. Infinity Ward is actively working on fixes for these issues and hopes to have them resolved soon.
