Transfer Roundup: Dedic Completes £29.5m Newcastle Move, Wan-Bissaka Loaned to Villa
Transfer News
Amar Dedic has completed a £29.5m move to Newcastle United, with the 24-year-old Bosnia and Herzegovina international set to start at right-back in the Magpies’ upcoming match against Liverpool on Sunday.
The transfer was confirmed after Dedic revealed that working with Newcastle’s new manager, Matthias Jaissle, was a key factor in his decision to leave Benfica. The two had previously worked together at RB Salzburg, where Dedic played under Jaissle’s guidance.
‘Working with Matthias again was a big factor for me,’ Dedic explained. ‘We know each other well; he knows what I can bring to the pitch and I’m really happy to play for him again. It’s a special feeling and a real honour to join Newcastle.’
Newcastle’s Defensive Reinforcements
Newcastle’s signing of Dedic comes as a relief for the club, who have been struggling to find a reliable right-back this summer. With Tino Livramento still recovering from a calf injury, the Magpies have been left with a lack of senior options at the position.
Jaissle, who replaced Eddie Howe as Newcastle’s manager earlier this month, had previously advised club executives that Dedic could fill the void at right-back. The German’s familiarity with Dedic’s playing style and his ability to operate comfortably on both sides of the pitch made him an attractive option for the Magpies.
‘We know each other well; he knows what I can bring to the pitch,’ Dedic said, highlighting the benefits of working with Jaissle again. ‘I’m really happy to play for him again. It’s a special feeling and a real honour to join Newcastle.’
Aaron Wan-Bissaka Loaned to Aston Villa
Aston Villa have agreed a deal with West Ham to sign Aaron Wan-Bissaka on loan, with the option to make the move permanent at the end of the season. The DR Congo defender will provide Unai Emery with cover for Matty Cash, who has been struggling with injuries this summer.
Villa had an initial offer to take Wan-Bissaka on a straight loan rejected by West Ham, but the two clubs were able to come to an agreement after further negotiations. Wan-Bissaka will join a Villa side that is also hoping to sign João Palhinha and remain in talks with Bayern Munich over the Portugal midfielder.
‘We’re delighted to have Aaron on board,’ Emery said in a statement. ‘He’s a talented defender who will provide us with quality and depth at the back. We’re looking forward to working with him.’
Guglielmo Vicario Joins Juventus on Loan
Juventus have confirmed that they have signed Guglielmo Vicario from Tottenham on a season-long loan. The deal includes an option for Juve to make the goalkeeper’s move permanent at the end of the season.
Vicario, 29, joined Spurs from Empoli in 2023 and has made 117 appearances for the north London club. He was part of the side that won the Europa League in 2025, ending the club’s 17-year wait for a major trophy.
However, Vicario lost his place in the team after the arrival of Roberto De Zerbi as manager in March. He will now join a Juventus side that is looking to strengthen its goalkeeping options ahead of the new season.
Sunderland’s Transfer Plans
Sunderland were set to announce their acquisition of a new left-back after fending off competition from Roma and Newcastle to win the race to sign the Toulouse defender Dayann Methalie for £25.6m. However, the transfer was put on hold after it emerged that Methalie had failed part of his medical.
Sunderland’s specialists detected a potential back problem in the 20-year-old, who has now returned to Toulouse for further examination by an independent French consultant. Methalie, a France Under-21s international, made 28 Ligue One appearances last season and has been lined up to compete with Reinildo for a place in Régis Le Bris’s starting XI.
Metahlie is comfortable operating as a left-sided central defender or wingback and had been about to sign a five-year contract at the Stadium of Light. He will now return to Toulouse for further evaluation before a decision is made on his future.
