Rep. Al Green Takes Aim at President Trump

On Monday, Rep. Al Green (D-Texas) filed new articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump, citing ‘high crimes and misdemeanors’ as grounds for the move.

The resolution, which Green introduced in the House of Representatives, accuses Trump of failing to uphold his ‘constitutionally mandated solemn presidential oath of office to ‘preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States,’ thereby demonstrating that he is a great threat to democracy.’

The articles of impeachment specifically mention four individuals who were killed by United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) in 2026. These include Renee Good and Alex Pretti, who were killed in January, and Lorenzo Salgado Araujo and Johan Sebastian Duran Guerrero, who were killed in July.

The resolution also accuses Trump of abusing the powers of the presidency by operating ICE and CBP as ‘vicious, quota-driven, unaccountable paramilitary police forces, transgressing with anonymity and secrecy, assaulting people, committing and covering up unjustified killings of civilians… with impunity… terrorizing communities and brazenly wantonly devolving the United States democratic republic into an authoritative regime.’

Rep. Green has a history of introducing articles of impeachment against Trump. In 2025, he filed a single article of impeachment against the President, citing Trump’s failure to notify or seek approval from Congress before launching strikes against three alleged Iranian nuclear sites. The attempt failed by a 344-79 vote.

Trump has been impeached twice by the House of Representatives, once in December 2019 and once in January 2021. Both times, the U.S. Senate later acquitted him of the charges.

Green’s decision to file new articles of impeachment against Trump comes amidst a growing controversy surrounding the President’s handling of immigration and border security issues. The move is likely to be met with significant opposition from Republican lawmakers, who have consistently defended Trump’s actions on these issues.

The future of the articles of impeachment is uncertain, but one thing is clear: the controversy surrounding Trump’s presidency shows no signs of abating.
