Virginia State University Shooting: 19-Year-Old Arrested Hiding in Closet
Shooting on VSU Campus Leaves 5 People Injured
A shooting incident occurred on the Virginia State University (VSU) campus in the early hours of Saturday, leaving five people injured. The victims ranged in age from 17 to 23 years old, with a 21-year-old man sustaining critical injuries and the other four having non-life-threatening injuries.
The shooting took place around 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, and the campus was put on lockdown until about 8:30 a.m. The students were expected to start fall classes on Monday, but the incident occurred before the classes began.
The campus was immediately put on lockdown after the shooting, and the students were asked to stay indoors. The lockdown was lifted after the police arrested the suspect.
The suspect, 19-year-old Camron Harris, was found hiding in a closet in Seward Hall on the campus around 4 p.m. on Saturday. He was arrested and taken into custody at the Chesterfield County Jail on suspicion of four counts of malicious wounding and four counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
Harris was being held without bond, and police said more charges may be filed against him. VSU is a historically Black university with approximately 5,100 undergraduate students.
The campus was still in a state of shock after the incident, and the students were advised to stay safe and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
The incident has raised concerns about campus safety and the need for better security measures. The university has promised to take all necessary steps to ensure the safety of its students.
