The Keychron K8 Ultra 8K is an outstanding mechanical keyboard that offers an impressive array of features and a sturdy build quality. With its sleek design, excellent battery life, and versatile connectivity options, this keyboard is an excellent choice for those seeking a reliable and high-performance typing experience.

The Keychron K8 Ultra 8K boasts a robust build quality, featuring a sturdy aluminium top case and PBT keycaps that are designed to withstand the rigors of heavy use. The keyboard’s frame is incredibly solid, weighing in at 1.2 kg, making it an excellent choice for those who prefer a more substantial typing experience.

The keyboard’s design is also noteworthy, with a TKL layout that is both familiar and functional. The layout is well-suited for those who prefer a more compact typing experience, and the narrow bezels around the edge of the layout make it an excellent choice for those who value desk space.

The Keychron K8 Ultra 8K features Keychron’s own Apex switches, which are designed to offer a smooth and tactile typing experience. The switches are available in three different variants, including a light and linear Red, a soft tactile Brown, and a heavier soft tactile Banana switch. In my experience, the Brown switches were a bit inconsistent, but this may be due to the specific sample I received.
The keycaps themselves are made from PBT, a high-quality material that is designed to withstand the rigors of heavy use. The keycaps feature a doubleshot design, which means that the legends are embedded in the keycap itself, making them more durable and resistant to wear.
The Keychron K8 Ultra 8K offers an impressive array of connectivity options, including wired USB-C, 2.4 GHz wireless, and Bluetooth 5.2. The keyboard’s battery life is also exceptional, with up to 760 hours of runtime available when the RGB lighting is turned off. Even with the lighting turned on, the keyboard’s battery life is still impressive, with up to 225 hours available.
The keyboard’s battery life is also aided by its use of new ZMK firmware, which is specifically designed for wireless connectivity. This firmware is a significant improvement over older QMK standard, which often resulted in noticeable battery life drops.
The Keychron K8 Ultra 8K supports Keychron’s new web-based Launcher software, which offers a convenient and lightweight method of configuring the keyboard’s settings. The software allows users to customize the keyboard’s RGB lighting, as well as remap keys and create macros. The software is also designed to be easy to use, with a simple and intuitive interface.
The keyboard also supports 22 different lighting presets, making it easy to customize the keyboard’s appearance to suit your preferences.
